Last week it was all of 75*! Our norm around here is in the upper 80's! Other than not being able to enjoy the pool, I'm really excited that the weather is so nice that walking and getting back to running, yep I said it running! I've got to get my body back in shape!
I keep seeing all over Facebook people clean eating so I thought I'd check it out. It's a pretty simple plan, no dairy ( no problem, I can't eat it anyway!), gluten free, sugar free, no pork (I guess those little devils are as dirty inside as they are on the outside!), organic fruits and veggies, and no nitrates in your meat. That pretty much sums it up. Soooo, I've decided to do clean eating for 30 days!! The best part is my kids 13 & 11, and my Momma are gonna join in on it!! Wha better support than your family!!

I plan to blog daily with what we're eating, and how we're doing. I've asked the kids to journal how it's going for them too. I think it's nice to see a kids point a view. Mom doesn't live with us, but she is plans on journaling too!

We have semi planned meals, so let's see how it goes!

Day 1

Starting my day with a detox tea. I'm using a mix of Tealightful Teas, Spa Day and Traditional Medicinals EveryDay Detox. I prefer mine iced so here goes!

Now to a protein shake! I mixed sweet, salty and dried fruit to get this! "This is the best snack ever, can we have this everyday?" Is just one comment I received!!

1 box animal crackers
1 box Chocolate Cheerios
1 bag stick pretzels
1 bag Craisins-blueberry
In a 9x13 glass pan layer first three ingredients. Leave crackers whole. they should fit in the pan five across two on the bottom.
Layer in this order:
put the chocolate chip in a baggie and melt in the microwave. Do 10 sec increments until they're melted. Cut tip off bottom of baggie to use it to drizzle or the cake. Kids are simple. Here's another great treat that not only healthy, it's delicious! Adults you can eat these too, you're a kid at heart!

-Sliced Apples
I prefer Fugi. Removing the skins isn't necessary. If kids can eat hot dogs, they can eat the skin of an apple! And besides, there are great nutrients in them!!
-Sugar Free Jell-O (the kids prefer lime, orange, and strawberry)
Drizzle the powdered jello across the apples. A little goes a long way!

1 (4 lb 12 oz) Box of Borax
1 (3 lb 7 oz) Box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 (3 lb) Container of OxyClean (I used a generic it was 3.5 lbs)
2 (14.1 oz) Bars of Fels Naphtha Soap
1 (4 lb) Box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
1-2 (55 oz) Bottle of Purex Crystals Fabric Softener (This is 100% optional. I like our clothes to smell good! Now if Gain would only come out with something!!)

Supplies
-1 wooden spoon
-2 large buckets (I used a new mop bucket and a 5 gallon paint pail, my hubby had)
-food processor (I have a food processor I got on a swap site I use strictly for my cleaning supplies and crafts)
-Containers with lids or use the 5 gallon bucket with a lid

-First grate the 2 bars of soap
-Switch to the chopping blade
-"Chop" the bar soap so it's more fine (see the second picture)
-Layer all the ingredients into a bucket. I used a new mop bucket.
-Blend ingredients in the food processor (little by little of course) You can either do this part or eliminate it all together. It just made everything the same consistency.
-Put blended ingredients into the other bucket and mix it together.

We use 1-2 tablespoons per load in our high efficiency washer. You may have to use more or less depending on your washer and/or water. (ie. hard water, water softener, etc.) From the looks of how much this makes we shouldn't need to make anymore until next fall!!

I got the "recipe" from http://www.howdoesshe.com/cheaper-and-better-diy-laundry-detergent/
The "recipe" at the top is adapted from there, but with the changes I made, so I'm ready for the next batch!

Happy Washing!

Update: Its's August 19, 2013 and we are still using this batch of soap!!!
Check at the 12 minute mark.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00139694098568076308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106305319221483677.post-81272931444978030682013-01-03T18:06:00.001-06:002013-01-03T18:06:33.096-06:00Most Amazing Potato SoupToday I tried another recipe from the Pioneer Woman! These will be great for Breakfast and after school snacks!

INGREDIENTS:
4 large eggs
1 cup olive oil
3 cups sugar
5 cups flour
5 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
15 oz raisin bran cereal
1 quart buttermilk

DIRECTIONS:
In a very large bowl, combine eggs, oil, and sugar. You are creating an emulsion here, so wisk fast. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.

To liquid mixture, alternate adding flour mixture, raisin bran, and buttermilk, one at a time, stirring after each addition. Mix just until combined.

Bake at 425 for 8-12 minutes (my crappy oven took 16 minutes+)

Makes very large amount of batter (42 regular size muffins, to be exact). If desired, covered batter can be stored in fridge for up to six weeks (YES, really) and used a little at a time.
CALORIES:
Makes 42 muffins at approximately 205 calories each.

1 cup Borax
1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Suds

Grate bar of "soap."
In container of choice add grated soap to borax and washing suds. Mix together. That's it! Use 1-1 1/2 tablespoon per load. Depending on the size of load and your water quality I have a front load washer and this doesn't seem to bother the mechanics or the ring. Actually since I've switched, my washer doesn't stink anymore! As for a fabric softener, I use vinegar! (1/4-1/2 cup per load)
Happy Washing!!!Miss Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00139694098568076308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106305319221483677.post-58102502200642970892012-08-27T12:53:00.001-05:002012-08-27T13:10:36.570-05:00Chocolate Buttercream FrostingI found the recipe on http://savorysweetlife.com/2011/04/chocolate-buttercream-frosting/#more-835.
This is hands down the BEST recipe I've ever had for chocolate buttercream! I used ghirardelli cocoa powder for my recipe. I say when it comes to desserts, never skimp when it comes to the chocolate!

Prep time: 2 mins Cook time: 3 mins Total time: 5 mins Serves: 3 cups

Ingredients
-1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks or 1/2 pound), softened (but not melted!)
-3 1/2 cups confectioners (powdered) sugar
-1/2 cup cocoa powder
-1/2 teaspoon table salt
-2 teaspoons vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon almond extract (I prefer Watkins Vanilla)
-4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

Instructions
Cream butter for a few minutes in a mixer with the paddle attachment on medium speed. Turn off the mixer. Sift 3 cups powdered sugar and cocoa into the mixing bowl. Turn your mixer on the lowest speed (so the dry ingredients do not blow everywhere) until the sugar and cocoa are absorbed by the butter. Increase mixer speed to medium and add vanilla extract, salt, and milk/cream and beat for 3 minutes. If your frosting needs a more stiff consistency, add a little more sugar. If your frosting needs to be thinned out, add additional milk 1 tablespoon at a time.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00139694098568076308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106305319221483677.post-29341763676966517242012-08-27T12:52:00.001-05:002012-08-27T13:00:37.717-05:00Classic Vanilla Buttercream FrostingI found this amazing recipe on http://savorysweetlife.com/2010/03/buttercream-frosting/.
Prep time: 2 mins Cook time: 3 mins Total time: 5 mins Serves: 2.5 cups

Classic American Buttercream frosting. This recipe uses powdered sugar, butter, vanilla and milk. This is a great recipe for decorating and piping on cupcakes and cake.

Ingredients
-1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks or 1/2 pound), softened (but not melted!) Ideal texture should be like ice cream.
-3-4 cups confectioners (powdered) sugar, SIFTED
-1/4 teaspoon table salt
-1 tablespoon vanilla extract
-up to 4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

Instructions
Beat butter for a few minutes with a mixer with the paddle attachment on medium speed. Add 3 cups of powdered sugar and turn your mixer on the lowest speed (so the sugar doesn’t blow everywhere) until the sugar has been incorporated with the butter. Increase mixer speed to medium and add vanilla extract, salt, and 2 tablespoons of milk/cream and beat for 3 minutes. If your frosting needs a more stiff consistency, add remaining sugar. If your frosting needs to be thinned out, add remaining milk 1 tablespoons at a time.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00139694098568076308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106305319221483677.post-32992522896382945962012-08-23T19:20:00.001-05:002012-08-27T13:16:06.557-05:00Cherry Vanilla or Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes1 Vanilla Cake Mix or Chocolate Cake Mix
1 Can Cherry Pie Filling
3 Eggs

Mix together with mixer on low until blended. Then continue on medium for 3 more minutes. This is actually very important. It will keep the cupcakes airy and moist!

Put in muffin cups and bake for the amount of time on the cake mix box. Cool completely. Frost. Enjoy!!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00139694098568076308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106305319221483677.post-77010421082843108412012-08-16T19:50:00.001-05:002012-11-07T18:18:27.552-06:00Homemade Baby WipesIngredients:
1 roll Bounty Select-A-Size paper towels
2 tablespoons baby bath
2 tablespoon baby oil
2 cups warm water

Cut the roll of paper towels in 1/2. Place one of the cut rolls in a container where the towels are upright. Mix liquids together and pour over the top of the towels. When soaked the cardboard center will easily come out. Pull from the center and you're set! I used Baby Magic Baby Wash this time around and they smell so good.
A practical gift that looks cool!!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00139694098568076308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106305319221483677.post-56436629901461741572012-08-01T10:10:00.001-05:002012-08-10T11:28:48.556-05:00Homemade Tub & Shower MagicSo I decided to give “Tub and Shower Magic” by Bobbin at Food.com a try:

You will need:

a 24 oz spray bottle
12 ounces of Ultra Dawn dishwashing liquid
12 ounces of white vinegar**

(1 part of each product. Easier to remember!!)

Pour in bottle, shake and clean!!! I spray the tub and surround down, leave for 5 minutes, come back with a rag or sponge and wipe it down. Here's the best part, turn on the shower on hot/warm and let it do the work of rinsing the soap down the drain! Granted you might have to do some rinsing, but how easy!!!

***It says to heat up the vinegar, but I didn't and it works great!!***
